Despite the size and heft of this watch it sits very comfortably on the wrist, even my small one. It doesn't leave you feeling as if you have been lifting weights all day as some other watches do. The bracelet is wide enough to help with this. For those that have worn an Orient Beast you will know what I mean by this as the bracelet on the Beast, in my opinion, was not wide enough for the size of the watch.

The bracelet is made of solid links and is attached to the watch using wide spring bars. The end links are not solid and there is not divers extension on the clasp, but I don't believe this detracts from the watch, as if I was going diving with it, I would put it on a rubber or silicon strap. Uses the same pin and collrs as the Seiko Monster bracelet.

The lume is good and lasts all night. Maybe not on a par with the Seiko Monster, but good enough for the job.

As with all the newer Orient automatics, this one has hacking and handwinding. A useful feature and it is nice to see the Power Reserve indicator moving towards 40 as you wind the ultrasmooth mechanism.

The bezel is easy to rotate but not as free as the Orient Star Revolver. It is unidirectional and has 120 clicks.

A recommended buy.

This is another Japanese Domestic Market model from around 1998 (warranty card shows a purchase date of Sept 2001). Part of the Orient M-Force history. First released in 1997, the M-Force range stands for 'Mechanical Force'.

Impressions:

The first impression that this watch gives is of being solidly built. A tool watch look with brushed stainless steel bezel and bracelet. The bracelet is solid links with pins and is of good quality. However, the bracelet is let down by the standard clasp fitted. These clasps were common at the time the watch produced. A clasp similar to the Beast would have been more appropriate in my opinion. That aside the watch wears well and is comfortable on the wrist.

The crown at 4 o'clock is used to set the time, date and 24 hour rotating ring. The 24 hour ring turns counterclockwise as the hands move clockwise, meaning that the time elsewhere in the world can be seen at a glance (apart from daylight saving).

The dial is nice blue with a textured middle.

Another wonderful part of the Orient M-Force history.

A couple of vintage Orient handcrankers..

There are some nice vintage Orient watches out there. Found these two. Both feature 17 jewel handwind movements.

First up, the Orient Fineness which uses the 20326 movement. As far as I can work out, made around 1967.

Next up is the Orient Jaguar which uses the 20620 movement. Probably made around the same time as the Fineness.

Picked up this President style Orient from an online auction. The crest had fallen off and had to be glued back into place. It uses the 46E40 calibre movement.

Decided to put it on a nice brown leather strap which I think adds to its style.

Orient M-Force Mini-Beast

I had the orange dial version of this watch and sold it to buy another watch..

Then a month ago this black/grey dial became available in a watch trade, so I jumped at the chance.

The dial had been replaced by Orient Japan and it was in great condition.

Also known as the Orient Star Revolver, this is one really nice watch. I wasn't sure about the bezel style when I first saw them on the net, but after holding one in my hand I decided I really liked it. Features a solid link SS bracelet with solid end links and diver extension. These watches also are available with a rubber strap instead and in blue and black dials.

Bought this one on a New Zealand auction site. Only reference I can find for it is a picture on the Orient Russia website. Lume is not good, but I like the case style. I also really like the waffle design on the dial which in some lighting disappears and then the dial looks jet black. Movement in this one is the 48743.

Uses the mercedes style hands, which I didn't like so much, so I put on some Omega style hands instead.

Warning.. Fake Orients for sale on the Net..

A friend purchased this fake Orient off a popular Internet auction site without realising it wasn't the genuine deal.. It is a fake.. The dial is poor imitation of the Orient Mako dial.. The crown is nothing like the one on the genuine Orient beast.. The movement might be a genuine Orient one, but is not the right calibre for the beast and the see through back is such a poor fit that when you tighten it pops off.. Despite this and complaints made to the auction site, they still are being sold..

This is one really nice cushioned cased watch. It has a beautiful green dial that has proven to be difficult to photograph due to reflection from the domed crystal. The leather strap is nice and thick, but comfortable, and is made by Somes for Orient. Somes are a company that make leather harnesses and other products for horses.

Another vintage Orient brought back to life..

Picked up this Orient Weekly Auto Swimmer from a sales section of one of the watch forums..

This is the watch as it was on arrival..

The 'kanji' day wheel was not working and the pusher at 2 o'clock was missing a retaining clip..

Note the picture of a scuba diver on the caseback and the words '40m perfect waterproof'..

The watch is now fully functional and temporarily on a black leather strap..

Here is the finished project and I think the brown leather strap goes well with the white dial..

I am guessing that this watch is from the 1960s..

Orient M-Force Diver WZ0031EZ

The Orient M-Force Diver WZ0031EZ is a Japanese Domestic Market model that is no longer available. It is a comfortable size and weight. The case is a nice shiny stainless steel with solid link bracelet. The bracelet links are held together with pins; it is let down by a very basic clasp. The lug width is only 16mm and the spring pins are quite thin. Fat pins will not fit. This is of concern as a weakened pin may fail as happened to me today. Luckily there was no major damage.

The crown and bezel have a nice knurled pattern. The crown screws down firmly. The bezel rotates firmly in one direction with 60 clicks and lines up with dial markers.

The dial has been described as egg shell white. It has a lovely sheen in certain light. The markers are raised and the subdials (power reserve, seconds and date) are inset. Lume on this one is great and lasts the whole night.

The urethane strap is patterned along the lines of the tread pattern for the tyres used in the 2007 rally season by Marcus Gronholm and BP-Ford World Rally Team. The dial has the number 3 and Gronholm inside an area representing the side window of the car. The colours are those used on his car.

On the back of the watch is Marcus Gronholm's signature which is also on the urethane strap. The rotor is engraved with details of the 2007 World Rally win by Marcus Gronholm and the BP-Ford World Rally Team. On the side of the watch is the number in the series which is limited to 2007 watches worldwide.

The small details have been looked after too. The pillow for the watch is signed as well and the box is in the team colours.

This watch is really comfortable to wear. Case is of the same design as the CFM00001B, but doesn't feel as bulky and heavy. Lume is much better than the CFM00001B as well.

The watch is currently running at -2 secs per day..

I am really pleased, because I didn't expect to get hold of one of these after I saw them advertised, and in fact missed out on my first attempt at purchase.

Also from the Sporty Automatic Collection is the Orient Marcus Gronholm Rally watch (Flightmaster to some) CFT00001B. This is joy to wear. I love seeing the action of the movement. The way it is sitting like a steering wheel. The 'fuel' guage for the power reserve above the 6. The time is set using the crown at 9 and the sliderule using the crown at 4. Both crowns are screw down. The movement is 'swirl' finished and is viewable throught the display back. The leather strap fits perfectly and is finished off with a deployant buckle. Highly recommended..

It is really dressy watch and I am told by another watch enthusiast that has one (Michael) that they look really great on a dark brown crocodile strap. A nice classic and elegant watch. This is one of the first Orients that I bought. I got this one while on holiday in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, after I bought it I found that it wasn't winding properly. So began my contact with Orient service. I looked up the agent in Hong Kong on the warranty card, caught the rapid rail to the district, walked the streets to find the address (and it was very hot) and went into the office. There I was greeted by the manager, Douglas. No trouble, please take a seat in here while we fix it. Then along comes a tray with coffee, tea and biscuits. Douglas soon joins us while we wait and we talk about Orients. He gets me a copy of the latest Orient catalogue. My watch is fixed and I leave there feeling like this company has really looked after me as an individual. Can't ask for better than that. On top of this, Douglas was the guy who had organised an Orient World Time to be available for me at a shop near my hotel for me to collect when I arrived in Hong Kong. You can probably now see why I am an avid Orient supporter.

Anyway enough of the ramble down memory lane.. Here is the watch..

Like a lot of Orients, the dial on this one has some subtle texture changes depending on the light. It can appear to have a lovely jet black dial and then you move the watch and you see....

This is the Orient Open Heart CFH01001B. The watch has a nice textured black dial. As with most of the Orients I own it also has a nice solid link SS bracelet.

The Orient Blue Beast WZ0191EX is next. This watch has a great teal blue colour dial that is hard to capture in pics. The dial face is textured and is a joy to view. This is a solid watch with quite a high profile. Good lume too.

Next is the lovely Orient Submariner 2ER00004D. The World Time theme is finished and now I move on to the Orient divers that I have. Bracelet is solid links but feels light. Watch diameter including crown is 42mm. A really nice homage style watch.

Number Nine in the collection is the Orient M-Force World Time CEY02005B0. The case and bracelet are gunmetal gray stainless steel. The watch diameter is 42mm. Yet again, a very comfortable watch to wear. It is let down by poor lume, however.

Number Eight in the odyssey is the Kingmaster World Time CFA02003W0 (WZ0051FA in Japan). This is the first of the watches with a 24 hour bezel that rotates counterclockwise as the hands move clockwise. The city bezel is set using the crown at 4 o'clock. The crown at 3 o'clock is screw down. Case diameter is 42mm. Yet again, a solid watch that is easy to wear.

Number Seven is the World Time model with calendar.. CEU05002D. Solid link bracelet. This one is quite light to wear despite its large size. Calendar is changed using the pusher at 2 o'clock.

Number Six is the Orient World Time with rotating cities bezel.. A nice watch, but the bracelet on this one is folded links, unlike most of the Orients I have. The lume is practically non-existent. That said, the 2EM0H007 is a very nice watch. Comfortable to wear and great styling.

A nice big watch that is light and comfortable to wear. The GMT hand is fixed and the 24 hour bezel can be rotated using the crown at 4 o'clock. Both crowns are of the screw in type. Lume on this watch is excellent, lasting through the night.

This watch is comfortable to wear on the wrist. It has an easy to read dial. The GMT hand is not independently adjustable. The integrated bracelet is solid and well made, but may not be suitable for everyone due to the fact that it has a permanent curvature.
